What is the Bamboo House?

side_bamboo_house

The Bamboo House is a gorgeous retreat on 5 acres with 2 separate structures. Located in the rural Puna district on the Big Island of Hawaii, just about a mile from the Pacific Ocean.

The newly built structures are off-the-grid, using solar energy to run electricity (with a back-up generator) and a rain catchment system for the water supply. This is a Hawaiian retreat with a nearly zero carbon footprint.

You can be 'unplugged' for a truly off the beaten path, soothing and renewing vacation.

The main house called the "Tahitian Hale" (hale is Hawaiian for house) has 2 bedrooms, each with it's own private balcony (lanai), and views of snow covered Mauna Kea. It also has an airy loft with sky lights and a far off ocean view, as well as kitchen, living area, 1 bathroom and wrap around lanai for wonderful outdoor living.

The other structure is the "Ohana Hale". It is a single round room for privacy, sleeping, meditation or yoga. The Ohana also has a wrap around lanai for lounging. No kitchen or bath in this hale.

Both structures are built up 8 feet off the ground on stilts for ocean views and cooling trade winds. The Bamboo House was designed to be light and open with many windows and sliding glass doors throughout. Indoor and outdoor flow together in the sensual softness that makes Hawaii so wonderful.
