Hokule'a Retreat

Hokule'a is the name used by the ancients for the star Arcturus, translating in Hawaiian to "Star of Gladness". The Polynesians used this star as their key to navigation and to find their way home to Hawaii. It is still used today by sailors steering by the stars.

Hokule'a Retreat, the land that the Bamboo House is on, is named in honor of our sister star, and the return journey home.

Enjoy the beautiful dark night sky of the rural Puna District and the wonder of millions of glittering stars above.
